Dear Parent / Carer

Arrangements for the Autumn Term

This letter is to inform you of a couple of minor changes for the Autumn term now that (fingers crossed) we no longer have to consider Covid guidance. If anything changes during the school holidays we will contact you by Parentmail or email if you are a new Year 5 parent.

Start Dates for Year Groups

There will be a phased return to school during the first week to help all the pupils settle in and to understand any new systems that have been put in place.  Pupils will be required to wear their full school uniform and appropriate footwear from their first day back.

Year 5 only

6th September 2022

All Year Groups in school

Year 5 parents and carers will be allowed to come onto the school playground to drop off and collect their children on Monday, 5th September only. This should be between 8.20 and 8.40am. From Tuesday 6th September you will be asked to drop off and collect from your chosen gate between the same times. Please be aware on the first day there will be a large number of parents collecting children from the front gate on Brooklands Drive on an already busy road. If you could arrange a meeting place further along the road, that would be extremely helpful. We also ask that unless you are a blue badge holder, cars are not permitted on the premises to drop off or collect children during the hours of 8.15- 8.50am or 3.15-3.45pm.

School Day - Start and Finish

All year groups will start and finish school at the same time, unless they are attending Breakfast Club.  All pupils can enter into school through any of the gated entrances and must be in school by 8.40am. When the gates open at 8.20am children will be allowed to mix on the playground until 8.30am when they will be expected to enter the school building and go to their form room. Any child arriving after 8.30am will go straight to their form room. Our gates do not open until 8.20am so please do not send children to arrive earlier as they will be unsupervised outside of the school gates.

Breakfast Club and After School Club

Breakfast Club will run from Monday 5th September and the earliest time to drop off children will be 7.30am. This should be through the hall doors at the front of the school. Food and drinks will be available for the children to purchase.

Kik-Back after-school club) will restart on Monday 5th September. You will need to contact them direct to book places, their email address is stacey@kik-back.co.uk

Break/ Lunch

Snacks are available to purchase at breaktimes although you may choose to send your child with a snack from home if preferred. May we remind you we are a nut-free school as there are a number of children with allergies.

School bought lunch is served directly from the school kitchen and children can choose whether to eat inside the school hall or outside (weather permitting). This also applies to those bringing a packed lunch from home.

School Clubs

These will start from September and tend to be a mix of before school, lunchtime and after school clubs.  A club timetable will be sent home in September with more details.

Other News

Year 8

We wish you all the very best in your upper schools and look forward to seeing many of you walk past the gate at the end of a busy day and hearing how you’re getting on. Thank you also to all our Year 8 parents for your continued support throughout your child's time at Brooklands.

Thank you Year 8 for being so fabulous.

Staff Leaving

This term we say goodbye to a number of staff who are either moving to pastures new or retiring. We wish all the very best to Mr Macey and Mr Morgan who are looking forward to spending more time with their families in retirement. We also say goodbye and congratulations to both Ms Dyos and Mrs Siddle who have both gained promotion at other schools. Mrs Betts, Dr Lavery and Miss Starling are also moving and we wish them lots of luck in their new schools. Finally, Mrs Bright has decided to go back to school herself and is leaving us to study an MA in English Literature.  We wish everyone the best of luck in their future endeavours.

Staff Joining

In September we are very excited to be welcoming new staff to Brooklands. Mrs Rogers (Maths teacher), Mrs Taylor (Science teacher), Mrs George (MFL teacher and curriculum lead), and Mrs Young (MFL teacher) will all join our teaching team. Mrs Johnson and Miss Egdell will join our SEND support team and Mrs Fox joins our admin team. We wish them every success and look forward to working with them.

Summer Break

If you have any concerns over the summer break the office emails will be checked periodically by staff.  Please email office@brooklands.school.

Thank You

Finally, can I say a huge thank you to you all. You have all been amazing throughout another difficult year and have once again risen to the challenge magnificently. It has been an absolute pleasure to get many things back to normal especially school trips and visitors which can add so much to a child’s experience.  You have supported us in every way and your children are as always a credit to us and yourselves.

We hope you and your families enjoy a restful summer break and that the sun continues to shine on us all.  Looking forward to seeing you all in September.

Yours sincerely

Mrs J Hodgson & the Brooklands Team
