Brooklands School

Headteacher Welcome

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you read this I’m sure you’ll be thinking- wow- how did we get to this stage already? How did my child grow so fast? I’m not ready for them to go to middle school- it’s scary!

We’ve heard all of these fears and worries before and experienced them ourselves and are well aware that this is a huge choice for you, your child and your family. At this time of year we invite you into Brooklands to take the first step on that journey- giving you the opportunity to tour the school and meet the children who have already taken that huge step into middle school. Details of how to do this are in our letter to lower schools and in this section of our website.

Brooklands is a community school that puts pupils at the centre of everything we do. It is a caring, friendly school that pupils are happy to come to. We see our role very much as building on the excellent foundations our lower school colleagues have started and moving children forward to be ready for the last stage in their formal education at Upper school. We get the great job of helping shape young adults and their futures and to us, it really is the best stage of education. Brooklands pupils work hard, and have an extremely positive relationship with each other and adults, something which is always commented on by visitors to the school. We offer an extensive curriculum, with specialist rooms, and an amazing array of after-school clubs, many of which are at no cost to yourselves.

Our school statement is ‘High Expectation, High Achievement’ and we challenge our pupils to aim high and achieve the very best they can, regardless of their starting point. Every pupil is special, and every child can achieve and it is our core purpose to find that special moment and support every child in making progress.

I am extremely proud of Brooklands- it is unique in its atmosphere and character. Having worked here for 15 years, six as Headteacher, I know it’s simply the best and look forward to sharing that with you and your families. I was particularly proud of a comment in our OFSTED report that stated “leaders have  established a welcoming community in which pupils feel safe and enjoy learning.” As much as I would like to take the credit, I am extremely fortunate to have the most dedicated staff in the business and as a team we are always working hard to make the middle school journey the best it can be.

This is an exciting and nervous time for you all but also an exciting time for us as we look forward to welcoming a new cohort of pupils to Brooklands. I look forward to meeting you all in the very near future. If you have any specific questions that we have not answered through our admissions pages on our website or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01525 372018 or email office@brooklands.school.

Yours sincerely

Julie Hodgson
