Homework
Homework
Homework is both important and necessary. Homework done regularly can be equivalent to a great deal of additional study. It can help pupils prepare for lessons as well as giving them the opportunity to practice what they have learned in lessons and develop a deeper understanding of a subject.
When should homework be given in?
Most homework is set on Google Classroom, with the date the homework needs to be submitted. Pupils can also write in their planner when work is due in. We ask pupils and parents to check planners and Google Classroom regularly to make sure they have sufficient time to complete it. All parents / Carers will be sent email invitations for Google Classroom - we urge all parents / carers to sign up to receive notifications about homework that has been set. Unfortunately you will need to use or set up a gmail email account to receive notifications from Google Classroom, please contact your childs teacher if you are using gmail but not receiving notifications about homework.
Who can help?
We actively encourage parents and carers to assist their child with homework. This will help your child make progress and will give parents and carers the opportunity to actively engage with your child's learning. The impact of engaging and supporting your child on their progress and attainment is immeasurable. Other people who can help are Teachers, older siblings, grandparents, friends, librarians.
How long should I spend on my homework?
At KS2 we suggest up to 30 mins per homework.
At KS3 we suggest up to 45 mins per homework.
If your child finds they are spending longer than this amount of time on their homework then their teacher needs to know. Please encourage your child to discuss this with their classteacher who can then look at adapting the work to make it more manageable in the time, or can give an extension on the deadline.
Do I need a printer at home to do my homework?
We know that not all families have a printer at home and we are also very conscious of the cost of printer ink! Any pupils that need a hard copy of a worksheet will be given one by their teacher and we can also print out work submitted on Google Classroom if a hard copy is required by the teacher.
Where can pupils get more information?
Libraries, books, magazines, family members, newspapers, television, radio and the internet can all be used to access useful/additional information.
