The Brooklands School Christmas Trees
We are always so proud of the amazing Christmas Trees our pupils create for the annual Leighton Buzzard Christmas Tree Festival! We always try to create a tree that makes an impact and stands out.
You will also see how the cameras on phones have improved over the years too!
2016
Our theme for this tree was Victorian Christmas - it's hard to see from the photos but pupils made foil figures inspired by Giacometti with top hats, bonnets, scarves, hand muffs and tiny Christmas carol manuscript sheets.
2017
Our theme for this year was creating light in the world through colour and words. We used old felt tip pens with fairy lights in them to create the lights, pupils then wrote their wishes for the future on gift tags.
2018
Our theme for this tree was 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens -pupils wrote out the story (by hand!) onto tracing paper, we then laminated the sheets, cut them into strips and made them in to baubles. Our amazing pupils wrote out the whole story!
2019
Our theme for this tree was sustainability - we recycled paper, cardboard boxes and string to create a tree that could be fully recycled. The fairy lights were the ones we've always used on the tree (and have used on subsequent trees!) and the tree was built around an IKEA uplighter which went back to being used as a sitting room light.
2020
The theme for this tree was 'Christmas from times gone by' - pupils created this beautiful dress on a tailors mannequin using real fir tree branches and red festive fabric.
2022
Our theme for this tree was 'Peace' - our incredible pupils from all year groups made all the origami doves by hand using paper that was destined for the shredder. All the doves were recycled after the tree had been displayed at school.
2023
Our theme for this year was 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' - this tree was made from card that had kindly been donated by a parent, rolled into cones by our creative pupils. It was made in sections that were then stacked on top of each other to create this amazing structure.
2024
The theme for this tree was 'Friendship' - pupils laser cut the Friendship Knot that sits at the top of the tree and then recycled old CDs wrapped in colourful wools and threads for the baubles. The giant Nutcracker soldiers stood guard and presents that spelt out 'Friendship' were wrapped and placed at the bottom of the tree.
We can't wait to start planning next years tree with the pupils - if anyone has any photographs of our trees (especially the earlier trees) that they would like to share with us, please send to office@brooklands.school
